Background:

  • Universal transvaginal ultrasound (UTVUS) at anatomy scans lacks established guidelines.
  • TVUS can assess cervical length (CL) and placental location but may increase interventions.
  • Implementing UTVUS aimed to improve pregnancy outcomes like preterm birth (PTB), postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the impact of a universal TVUS protocol at the anatomy scan on PTB, PPH, and NICU admissions.
  • To compare outcomes between a period with risk-factor-based TVUS and a period with UTVUS.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective cohort study of singleton gestations from February 2021 to January 2022.
  • Two groups: 'pre' (risk-factor-based TVUS) and 'post' (UTVUS at anatomy scan).

  • Risk-factor-based TVUS surveillance may be a reasonable alternative to UTVUS.
