Summary

Over-the-counter (OTC) tooth bleaching effectiveness varies. Combining bleaching agents with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) significantly enhances tooth shade change compared to using either alone. Snow products showed the highest efficacy.

  • However, their efficacy and potential adverse effects like sensitivity require thorough investigation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the tooth shade and color changes achieved by two different OTC bleaching agents.
  • To evaluate the impact of associated light-emitting diodes (LEDs) on the bleaching efficacy of these agents.

Main Methods:

  • Eighty-four extracted human anterior teeth were divided into seven groups, including controls.
  • Teeth were treated according to manufacturers' instructions, with rehydration between sessions.
  • Tooth color was measured using L*a*b* values and analyzed for color difference (∆E, CIE 2000) using ANOVA.

Main Results:

  • A significant interaction was found between bleaching product and treatment method (light, product, or both) on color change.
  • Combining bleaching agents with LEDs resulted in significantly greater color change (∆E) than using either alone.
