Background:

South Korea is transitioning to telenursing, leveraging high information and communication technology infrastructure.
Understanding public perceptions is crucial for the successful adoption and expansion of telenursing services.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate public perceptions of telenursing in South Korea.
To identify strategies for successful telenursing introduction and extension based on existing perceptions.

Main Methods:

Q methodology was employed to analyze perceptions.
37 Q statements were derived from literature, internet sources, and interviews.
Data from 49 participants were analyzed using principal component analysis and varimax rotations.

Main Results:

Five distinct perception types were identified: active acceptance (convenience/efficiency), total acceptance (complete support), total nonacceptance (skepticism), and two types of supplementary role acceptance (immediate and prolonged).

Conclusions:

Public perceptions of telenursing in South Korea are varied, encompassing convenience, support, skepticism, and expectations of supplementary roles.
These diverse perceptions offer insights for tailoring strategies to facilitate the successful integration and growth of telenursing.
