Summary

Background:

Inflammatory paradental cysts (IPC) are uncommon jaw cysts.
Under-reporting is linked to insufficient clinical documentation.
Accurate diagnosis requires integrating clinical, radiographic, and histopathological data.

Observation:

A 45-year-old male presented with discomfort in the right lower posterior jaw.
Clinical examination revealed a partially erupted, impacted mandibular third molar (tooth 48).
Radiography showed a well-defined radiolucency adjacent to the distal root of the impacted molar.

Findings:

Histopathological examination confirmed odontogenic epithelium and inflamed connective tissue.
The lesion was diagnosed as an inflammatory paradental cyst.
Diagnosis was established by correlating clinical presentation, radiographic features, and histopathology.

Implications:

This case underscores the necessity of thorough clinical evaluation for diagnosing IPC.
Emphasizes the role of radiographic interpretation in identifying periapical and pericoronal lesions.
Highlights the diagnostic value of histopathology in confirming odontogenic cyst diagnoses.
