Poor sleep quality, reduced Global Left Ventricular Strain (GLS), and elevated N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) are key indicators for cirrhotic cardiomyopathy (CCM). These factors highlight risks in liver cirrhosis patients, necessitating further research.
Area of Science:
- Cardiology
- Gastroenterology
- Sleep Medicine
Background:
- Cirrhotic cardiomyopathy (CCM) is a common complication in patients with liver cirrhosis.
- Understanding the risk factors for CCM is crucial for early detection and management.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate changes in sleep quality in patients with cirrhotic cardiomyopathy (CCM).
- To identify clinical characteristics and risk factors associated with CCM in liver cirrhosis patients.
Main Methods:
- The study included 18-75 year old liver cirrhosis patients.
- Clinical examination results were collected to assess CCM characteristics and risk factors.
- Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Global Left Ventricular Strain (GLS), and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) were analyzed.
Main Results:
- CCM onset was not linked to the etiology of cirrhosis.
- Poor sleep quality (PSQI score), low absolute GLS, and high NT-proBNP levels were identified as independent risk factors for CCM.
- Odds ratios: PSQI (13.476), GLS (0.328), NT-proBNP (1.050).
Conclusions:
- Decreased sleep quality is common in CCM patients.
- Poor sleep quality, reduced GLS, and elevated NT-proBNP may increase CCM risk in cirrhotic patients.
- Further validation with larger sample sizes is required.
