Standardizing patient-reported outcome measures in hand surgery is crucial. This study successfully linked the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (QuickDASH) and PROMIS Physical Function CAT scores, creating age-specific crosswalks for better data comparison.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop a linkage model for the QuickDASH and PROMIS PF CAT instruments.
  • To enable score interconversion between these PROMs in a hand surgery population.
  • To facilitate more accurate and comparable data in multicenter studies.

  • Retrospective review of adult patients completing both QuickDASH and PROMIS PF CAT.

  • Age-related bias identified, necessitating age-dichotomized crosswalk tables (<60 and ≥60 years).

Conclusions:

  • Successful linkage between QuickDASH and PROMIS PF CAT scores achieved.
  • Developed crosswalk tables, stratified by age, allow for score interconversion.
  • These tools will enhance future meta-analyses and multicenter hand surgery studies.
