Summary

Robot-assisted surgery successfully removed papillary fibroelastoma from the tricuspid valve in three patients. This minimally invasive approach preserved the native valve and resolved symptoms in two patients, demonstrating safety and feasibility.

Background:

  • Papillary fibroelastomas are rare cardiac tumors, often found incidentally.
  • Tricuspid valve involvement is uncommon, and symptoms can be atypical.
  • Surgical intervention is typically required for symptomatic or large tumors.

Observation:

  • Three cases of papillary fibroelastoma on the tricuspid valve are presented.
  • Two patients experienced atypical symptoms including chest pressure and pain.
  • Robot-assisted resection was utilized for tumor removal.

Findings:

  • The robotic approach allowed for complete tumor resection while preserving the native tricuspid valve.
  • All three patients experienced successful recovery post-surgery.
  • Symptomatic patients reported complete resolution of chest pain and pressure.

Implications:

  • Robot-assisted surgery is a safe and feasible option for treating tricuspid valve papillary fibroelastoma.
  • Minimally invasive techniques can lead to excellent patient outcomes.
  • This approach may become a preferred method for managing similar cardiac tumors.
