Aligning DNP Student and Faculty Scholarship Outcomes Through an Interdisciplinary Faculty Retreat

Background:
Given the rapid proliferation of doctor of nursing practice (DNP) programs and documented concerns regarding their scholarly outcome, DNP faculty development is urgently needed.
Problem:
Many faculty teaching in DNP programs lack the training in doctoral scholarship oversight needed to ensure DNP student scholarship rigor.
Approach:
A large multicampus college of nursing invested in an interdisciplinary DNP faculty development retreat to increase participants' scholarship and strengthen their ability to mentor DNP student projects.
Outcomes:
Positive initial outcomes of the retreat included participants' self-reported increased confidence in implementing evidence-based practice quality improvement methods and an increase in DNP student and faculty publication submissions.
Conclusions:
These findings are transferable to other academic institutions that aim to increase their DNP faculty and student scholarly outcomes.
