Evaluation of an Interdisciplinary Academic Evidence-Based Practice Workshop With Faculty Certification.

Background:

• Faculty and interdisciplinary partners require a strong understanding of research, evidence-based practice (EBP), and quality improvement (QI) to effectively guide student projects.
• A gap exists in the consistent education of nursing students in EBP and QI principles across various programs.

Purpose of the Study:

• To equip faculty, course leaders, program leaders, and interdisciplinary partners with EBP and QI competencies.
• To facilitate the attainment of EBP certification for participants.

Main Methods:

• A 3-day intensive workshop was developed and implemented at a multicampus College of Nursing.
• The workshop focused on delivering EBP and QI competencies and preparing participants for EBP certification.

Main Results:

• 31 faculty and interdisciplinary partners successfully obtained EBP certification.
• Workshop evaluations indicated universal agreement among participants on the necessity for a future certification that combines both EBP and QI.

Conclusions:

• The developed program serves as a transferable model for faculty to demonstrate EBP competence.
• This initiative can be an exemplar for increasing various certifications among nurse educators.
