    Summary

    Unilateral ureteral ligation significantly impacts the contralateral kidney, especially in diabetic rats. Diabetic rats showed greater left kidney size and more glomerular damage after ligation compared to controls.

    Background:

    • Unilateral ureteral ligation (UUL) is a surgical procedure that can lead to compensatory hypertrophy in the contralateral kidney.
    • Diabetes mellitus is known to affect kidney morphology and function, potentially altering the response to UUL.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the combined effects of streptozotocin-induced diabetes and UUL on the contralateral kidney's morphology and pathology.
    • To compare the compensatory response in diabetic versus non-diabetic rats subjected to UUL.

    Main Methods:

    • Rats were induced with diabetes using streptozotocin.
    • Unilateral ureteral ligation was performed on the right ureter in both diabetic and control groups.
