Background:

Cesarean section is a common obstetric procedure.
Maternal anxiety during cesarean delivery can negatively impact well-being and bonding.
Anxiety is a significant contributor to postpartum depression.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the impact of an informative cesarean section operative steps video on maternal anxiety scores.
To compare the anxiety levels of women receiving a video intervention versus standard pre-cesarean care.

Main Methods:

A randomized controlled trial involving 178 women undergoing their first cesarean section.
Intervention group watched a 5-minute video detailing the cesarean process; control group received standard care.
Maternal anxiety was measured using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) pre-operatively and on postpartum day 1.

Main Results:

Pre-operative anxiety scores were similar between groups.
Post-operative anxiety scores significantly decreased in the intervention group compared to the control group (p = 0.002).
A majority of the intervention group experienced low anxiety post-operation, unlike the control group.

Conclusions:

An informative educational video effectively reduces anxiety associated with cesarean delivery.
This intervention is a valuable tool for improving maternal health outcomes.
The study was registered with the Thai Clinical Trials Registry (TCTR20230328001).
