Purpose of the Study:

  • To quantify changes in T cell proliferative capacity after HI versus moderate-intensity (MI) exercise.
  • To investigate the impact of exercise intensity on T cell function.

Main Methods:

  • Sixteen males were divided into HI and MI exercise groups.
  • Blood samples were collected at baseline and at intervals up to 6 hours post-exercise.
  • T cell proliferation was analyzed using CD3+ T cells with phytohaemagglutinin or CD3+CD28 co-stimulation.

Main Results:

  • T cell proliferative response significantly increased in the HI group up to 6 hours post-exercise.
  • No significant changes in T cell proliferative ability were observed in the MI group.
  • Serum stress hormones and cytokines did not correlate with the observed T cell changes.

  • HI exercise enhances T cell proliferative capacity, suggesting an exercise-induced activation.
  • This heightened proliferative capacity indicates primed T cells for enhanced functional responses.
  • HI exercise may bolster immune readiness rather than suppress it.
