Counseling and health screening for children entering sports and physical exercise

It is estimated that some 26 million students, ages 8 to 16, participate in some sports activities. The appropriate physical assessment and anticipatory counseling relative to competitive sports, the age mix and the appropriateness of mixed sex and unisex participation are reviewed.
