Electrical Safety and Performance of E-Band devices Relative to Relevant Requirements of International Electrical
Abstract:
The E-Band is a Conductive Distraction and De-Escalation Device (CD3). The goal of this paper was to analyze the E-Band electrical output and to compare it to relevant requirements of international standards. Methods -Measurements on fresh, skinned animal tissue established an E-Band operational impedance range of 270 - 500 Ω. Therefore, voltage, current, charge, pulse duration and rate were measured when applied to loads from 270 to 500 Ω. The measurement results were compared to relevant requirements of following standards: UL 69, IEC 60335-7-26, IEC 60479-1 and -2, and ANSI/CPLSO-17.Results - Within its operational load range, the E-Band delivers maximum voltages in the range of 324 - 362 V, maximum currents of 0.72 - 1.2 A, charge levels of 72.4 - 111.7 μC with pulse durations of 116 μs, repetition rate of 30 pps and duty cycles of 0.348%. These parameters were all within relevant ranges required by UL 69, IEC 60335-7-26, IEC 60479-1 and -2, and ANSI/CPLSO-17.Conclusion - Based on our measurement data, E-Bands are in compliance with relevant requirements of UL 69, IEC 60335-7-26, IEC 60479-1 and -2, and ANSI/CPLSO-17.
