Fractures: Bone Repair

5.8K
Treatment for a fracture is based on the type of break, the bone affected, and the patient's age.
Minor fractures with no bone displacement are treated by immobilizing the fractured bone using a cast or splint. However, in the case of fractures with displaced bones, the broken bones are repositioned before immobilization to ensure successful healing without deformation and loss of function. The realignment of fractured bone ends is performed through a process called reduction. If the...

Kidney Transplant II: Surgical Procedure

926
Preoperative ManagementThe primary goals of preoperative management in kidney transplantation are to optimize the patient’s metabolic state and prepare them for surgery through diet adjustments, necessary dialysis, and tailored medical treatment. This phase also involves comprehensive infection screening and patient education about the surgical procedure and postoperative care to improve outcomes and adherence.Medical ManagementA comprehensive evaluation is required for both the living...

Summary

Treatment for first-time patellar dislocation (FTPD) should be individualized. Medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction is favored for surgery, while bracing offers no clear benefit, and physical therapy is essential.

Area of Science:

  • Orthopedics
  • Sports Medicine
  • Knee Surgery

Background:

  • First-time patellar dislocation (FTPD) requires careful management strategies.
  • Part 2 of this consensus focuses on nonoperative treatments, bracing, rehabilitation, and surgical indications.
