Abstract:
Multidrug-resistant bacterial species and their untreatable infections threaten human health worldwide. The four seasons' essential oils (EOs) of Operculicarya decaryi were investigated against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus MRSA. Limonene was the major component identified in O. decaryi EOs followed by methyl cinnamate. O. decaryi autumn essential oil (Odao) has a robust antibacterial effect against MRSA. Camphor, carvone, p-cymen-7-ol, α-terpinen-7-al, cryptone, and caryophyllene oxide were highly correlated to the observed activity. Odao exhibited a significant wound healing ability and remarkable anti-inflammatory activity in human adult dermal fibroblasts (HDFa) cells inflammatory model. A significant reduction in the microbial counts recovered from the spleens of the groups treated by either Fusidic acid or Odao in in vivo skin infection murine model was observed. This study is the first record for the phytochemical composition of Odao and its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and wound healing activities, suggesting camphor, carvone, and p-cymen-7-ol as top highly correlated components.
