Background:

Workplace violence and aggression against emergency department (ED) clinicians is a significant issue.
Effective interventions require time to integrate into practice.
A multimodal approach is necessary to address this complex phenomenon.

Purpose of the Study:

To determine the efficacy of a multimodal intervention on the frequency of workplace violence incidents.
To assess the impact of the intervention on clinicians' perceptions of safety in the ED.

Main Methods:

A quasi-experimental, longitudinal design was employed.
Interventions included environmental changes, a rapid de-escalation program, and improved incident reporting.
Anonymous surveys measured violence frequency and safety perceptions pre- and post-intervention.

Main Results:

No significant difference was found in the number of violence incidents experienced by clinicians.
Clinicians' perceptions of safety decreased from baseline.
A significant increase in formal incident reports was observed.

Conclusions:

The multimodal intervention did not significantly decrease violent acts or improve safety perceptions.
Factors like timing and severity of aggression may have influenced outcomes.
Further research with varied methods is needed to establish best practices for preventing workplace violence in EDs.
