Area of Science:

  • Psychology and Psychiatry
  • Trauma-Informed Care

Background:

  • Trauma-related disorders significantly impact individuals' mental health.
  • Effective interventions are needed for diverse populations in community settings.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the effectiveness of a multimodal, phased trauma intervention (trauma practice) on trauma-related symptoms.
  • To explore treatment response in real-world clinical settings with varied populations and clinician experience.

Main Methods:

  • A single-arm study assessed symptom changes in participants undergoing triphasic trauma therapy.
  • Self-report measures were collected at baseline, after each phase, and at 6-month follow-up.
  • Participants (N=41 at baseline) completed measures for dissociation, depression, anxiety, sexual issues, and sleep disturbances.

Main Results:

  • Statistically and clinically significant reductions in all measured trauma symptoms were observed.
  • Participants' symptoms decreased from clinically elevated to non-clinical levels by therapy completion.
  • Moderate to large effect sizes and sustained gains at follow-up indicated reliable change.

Conclusions:

  • Trauma practice demonstrates promise as an effective intervention for trauma in community clinical settings.
  • The findings support the use of this phased approach in diverse, real-world populations.
