This case report details an extremely rare subglottic small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma. Early diagnosis and aggressive treatment, including chemoradiotherapy, led to a favorable response in this laryngeal cancer patient.

Background:

  • Neuroendocrine tumors of the larynx are rare, accounting for 1% of laryngeal tumors.
  • Subglottic neuroendocrine carcinoma is exceptionally rare, with few reported cases.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To report a rare case of subglottic small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma.
  • To highlight the diagnostic challenges and management of this rare laryngeal malignancy.
  • To emphasize the importance of early diagnosis and aggressive treatment.

Main Methods:

  • A 56-year-old male presented with hoarseness and dyspnea.
  • Diagnostic evaluation included Micro laryngoscopy and Biopsy under General Anesthesia (GA).
  • Histopathological examination (HPE) confirmed small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma.

Main Results:

  • The patient was diagnosed with subglottic small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma.
  • No secondary primary tumor or distant metastases were identified.
  • The patient showed a favorable response to chemoradiotherapy.

  • Prompt diagnosis and aggressive management are crucial for patient outcomes.
  • Close monitoring is necessary due to high recurrence and metastasis risk.
