    • To analyze the psychometric properties of the Nurses' Cardiac Triage Instrument using a national sample of emergency nurses.
    • To provide recommendations for the refinement of the Nurses' Cardiac Triage Instrument.

    Main Methods:

    • A descriptive survey study involving 414 emergency nurses recruited via stratified random sampling.
    • Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) were employed to evaluate the instrument's structure.
    • The original factor structure showed a poor fit, necessitating further analysis with a modified approach.

    Main Results:

    • Confirmatory factor analysis revealed a poor fit with the original factor structure.
    • Exploratory factor analysis and subsequent CFA identified 7 factors explaining 63.49% of the variance.
    • Nurse action (Factor 3) exhibited ceiling effects and was excluded from the primary analysis.

    Conclusions:

    • Factors 1 (patient presentation) and 2 (nurses' reasoning process) of the instrument were validated through EFA and CFA.
    • Items from the original Factor 3 may serve as future outcome measures.
    • Further research is recommended to compare intended versus actual nursing actions in triage.
