The Parietal Foramen: A Debate on Terminology and Clinical Relevance

The parietal foramen, an anatomical feature with clinical relevance, is commonly located near the sagittal suture. However, its presence, size, and localization vary significantly, with studies reporting its absence in some cases. In the literature, especially recently, the term "accessory parietal foramen" has been used to describe smaller or additional foramina. However, it is thought that this term does not have a clear definition and causes terminological confusion. This article emphasizes the need to adopt a classification based on the number of foramina rather than an ambiguous term such as "accessory," aiming for clarity in anatomical and clinical contexts, and to minimize terminological confusion.
