    Summary

    Concurrent administration of N-nitroso-N-methylbenzylamine (NMBA) and sodium nitrite significantly enhances esophageal tumor progression and causes respiratory damage. These findings highlight the need to re-evaluate the toxicological impact of nitrites.

    Background:

    • N-nitroso-N-methylbenzylamine (NMBA) is a known carcinogen.
    • Nitrite is a common food additive and environmental contaminant.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the synergistic effects of NMBA and sodium nitrite on esophageal tumor development.
    • To assess the impact of combined NMBA and nitrite administration on other organ systems, particularly the respiratory tract.
