Summary

Metaplastic breast carcinoma (MpBC) is a rare, aggressive breast cancer subtype. Despite diagnostic challenges, survival outcomes for MpBC may be comparable to aggressive invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) with tailored treatments.

Background:

Breast cancer (BC) is the most common malignancy in women, with invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) being the most frequent subtype.
Metaplastic breast carcinoma (MpBC) is a rare (<2% of cases), aggressive BC subtype with heterogeneous characteristics and poorer prognosis.
MpBC presents diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to its aggressive nature and difficulty in differentiating from other breast tumors via standard imaging.
