    Summary

    Overdrive atrial pacing effectively restored normal heart rhythm in most patients with drug-resistant supraventricular tachycardia. This pacing method offers a safe alternative to electrical cardioversion for these patients.

    Background:

    • Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) can be resistant to standard drug treatments.
    • Electrical cardioversion is a common treatment but carries risks, especially in certain patient groups.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the safety and efficacy of overdrive atrial pacing as an alternative treatment for drug-resistant SVT.

    Main Methods:

    • Overdrive atrial pacing was performed in twelve patients with suspected SVT.
    • Patient response to pacing was monitored, including heart rhythm and any adverse events.

    Main Results:

    • Eleven of twelve patients successfully reverted to sinus rhythm with pacing.
    • One patient was found to have ventricular tachycardia, not SVT.
    • The procedure was well-tolerated with no complications.

    • Overdrive atrial pacing is a safe and effective alternative to DC cardioversion for drug-resistant SVT.
