Abstract:
This case report highlights an exceptionally rare congenital anomaly where the left common carotid artery (LCCA) originates from the main pulmonary artery (MPA), a condition documented in only 12 cases globally. Typically, the LCCA arises from the aortic arch; however, in this situation, it attaches to the MPA, creating complications to cerebral blood flow. A patient in their first decade, with a history of symptomatic patent ductus arteriosus that required surgical closure shortly after birth due to persistent tachycardia and respiratory symptoms, presented to our clinic with recurrent headaches and chest infections lasting several months. To investigate these symptoms, a CT angiography was performed, revealing this rare vascular anomaly. Given the rarity of this condition and the patient's stable clinical status, conservative management was chosen. Continued monitoring remains essential to detect complications. More cases are needed to understand the outcomes and management strategies for this rare anomaly.
