Background:
This study is carried out to establish the quality of life (QL) of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on renal replacement therapy (RRT) on hemodialysis (HD), since it has been associated with decreased QL in these patients secondary to the medical-surgical interventions that are performed, in addition to the multiple comorbidities and complications that are associated with them.
Objective:
To establish the QL of patients with terminal CKD who are on RRT on HD.
Material And Methods:
Prospective, cross-sectional, observational and analytical study, with non-probabilistic convenience sampling. The total was of n = 87 patients, who were on RRT on intramural HD. It was carried out a survey to determine their QL. The Kidney Disease Quality of Life-36 (KDQOL-SF36) instrument was applied.
Results:
It was found that 51 patients (58%) were men, with a mean age of 45.037 (± 15.8663). Among QL results, the following variables were considered bad: assessing their kidney disease, sexual life, quality of sleep, relationship with family and friends, and work quality (p = 0.002, p = 0.001, p = 0.012, p = 0.005, and p = 0.001, respectively). In addition, it was shown that 46 patients (56%) considered that the quality of their health was bad (p = 0.024).
Conclusions:
In this study it was shown that suffering from CKD and being on RRT in HD produces a bad QL for these patients.

Acute kidney injury develops suddenly and can be caused by pre-renal causes (e.g., hypovolemia, shock), intrinsic renal causes (e.g., acute tubular necrosis), or post-renal causes (e.g., urinary obstruction). In contrast, chronic renal failure progresses gradually over time and is often...
Factors Affecting Renal Clearance: Renal Impairment
One condition associated with renal failure is uremia. Uremia is characterized by impaired glomerular filtration and fluid accumulation in the body. This condition hinders the renal clearance of drugs, resulting in drug accumulation and potential...
Renal Failure: Dose Adjustments
Reduced renal clearance and elimination rate are common outcomes of renal impairment. These alterations lead to a prolonged elimination half-life and an altered apparent volume of distribution for drugs. As a result, dosage adjustments are typically necessary to maintain optimal drug levels in the body.
However, dosage adjustments...
