Nursing Evaluation01:15

Nursing Evaluation

3.1K
The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Nursing organizations play a vital role in representing nurses working in specialized clinical settings, such as the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).
The AACN emphasizes a healthy work environment through six standards to achieve an optimal patient outcome. The standards are appropriate staffing, meaningful recognition, collaboration, authentic leadership, effective communication, and decision-making. In addition, AACN provides certification programs, webinars, journals, and...

Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching III: Evaluation and Documentation

1.6K
Evaluation of the teaching process enables the nurse to determine if the patient's learning needs were met and if training was effective. If the expected outcomes are not met, the care plan is revised, and additional education or reinforcement is provided. Nurses can ask questions after the session or obtain feedback to assess the patient's understanding of the topic.
Nurses can use several methods to evaluate patient outcomes. For example, oral questions can assess cognitive learning,...

Current Trends in Nursing II

1.2K
Trends in nursing are multifactorial and associated with changes in society, within the nursing profession, and in other professions. Notably, telehealth and remote nursing contribute to successful healthcare delivery for numerous patients and help reduce stress for nurses due to nursing shortages. Nurses can reach patients, monitor their conditions, and interact with them using computers, audio, visual accessories, and telephones—for example, remote patient monitoring systems. Likewise,...

Accountability and Responsibility of a Nurse II

664
Professional accountability in nursing is a multifaceted concept that encompasses professional ethics, legal standards, and employment expectations. This framework ensures that nurses maintain and elevate the quality of care while upholding the values of their profession. It compels them to treat patients, families, and colleagues with respect, compassion, and integrity.
For example, a nurse demonstrating respect and compassion might listen attentively to a patient's concerns, provide...

    Area of Science:

    • Nursing Education
    • Healthcare Workforce Development

    Background:

    • The healthcare environment in Maine is dynamic, emphasizing the need for skilled nurse preceptors.
    • Nurse preceptors are crucial for supporting nursing students, new nurses, and transitioning nurses.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the effectiveness of the Maine Nursing Preceptor Education Program.
    • To assess the impact of the program on nurse preceptors' confidence and preparedness.

    Main Methods:

    • Quantitative analysis of three waves of cross-sectional cohort data (2019-2020).
    • Data collected via pre-program surveys, post-workshop evaluations, and 3-month post-program evaluations.

    Main Results:

    • Participants were mostly mid-career nurses new to preceptor education.
    • Significant increases (p < .001) in confidence across eight preceptor domains were observed post-workshop.
    • Most participants assumed preceptor roles within 3 months and desired further professional development.

    Conclusions:

    • The Maine Nursing Preceptor Education Program demonstrated success in enhancing nurse preceptor capabilities.
    • The program's model can be adopted by other institutions to strengthen their nursing workforce.
