The Effect of Immunocorrection on Reparative Osteogenesis in Mandibular Fracture: A Histomorphometric Study

Background:
Fracture consolidation is a fundamental factor in understanding the biological process of bone healing in human. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of immunocorrection after trauma surgery on bone healing process in mandibular fracture in rabbits.
Methods:
This study carried out using 24 rabbits. In all rabbits, the mandibular fracture model and osteogenesis carried out on the fracture site by titanium miniplates and screws. Blood analysis performed before and during the treatment. The animals slaughtered and fractured site removed for morphologic studies at baseline and follow-up assessments.
Results:
After surgical trauma in all animals, immunologic indicators of blood including circulating immunocomplex, complements, and lysosomes have been reduced.
Conclusion:
General immunity and histomorphometric evaluation of the present study showed posttraumatic immunodeficiency could affects bone healing.
