Background:

  • A direct comparison between preservation rhinoplasty (PR) and structural rhinoplasty (SR) for hump nose correction is currently limited.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the functional and cosmetic outcomes of preservation rhinoplasty (PR) versus structural rhinoplasty (SR) in patients undergoing dorsal hump correction.
  • To evaluate patient-reported satisfaction with both techniques.

Main Methods:

  • A comprehensive literature search was performed across major databases (PubMed, Medline, Embase, Cochrane).
  • Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing PR and SR for dorsal hump reduction were analyzed.
  • Functional and cosmetic outcomes were assessed using the Standardized Cosmesis and Health Nasal Outcomes Survey and visual analogue scale.

  • Functional outcomes showed minimal heterogeneity (I² = 0%), while cosmetic outcomes displayed moderate heterogeneity (I² = 67%).

Conclusions:

  • Data suggest preservation rhinoplasty (PR) may yield better functional and cosmetic satisfaction for dorsal hump reduction compared to structural rhinoplasty (SR).
  • PR could be a preferred technique for achieving improved patient-reported outcomes in hump nose correction.
