A simple route to 2,3-benzodiazepines from substituted indenes

This study introduces a new two-step synthesis for 2,3-benzodiazepines from indenes. The method efficiently produces various compounds, including the anxiolytic tofisopam, with a detailed reaction mechanism elucidated.
