C-Arm Fluoroscopy for the Search of Suctioned Screw in Orthognathic Surgery

The loss of a screw during surgery is a common accident in orthognathic surgery. When the fixation screw was accidentally felt from the screwdriver to the dissected space of the mandible and maxilla during Le Fort I and bilateral sagittal split osteotomy, the screw might be suctioned. Searching for the screw in the suction canister was necessary during surgery because there was no evidence of the screw remaining in the tissue. Searching for the screw in the suction canister posed the risk of staff exposure to bloodborne pathogens. C-arm fluoroscope could easily detect the screw in the suction canister. It can prevent the splashing and spilling of infectious waste to prevent staff safety when searching for suctioned screws during orthognathic surgery.
