Non-adjacent dependency processing (or lack thereof) in bonobos: an artificial grammar experiment

Bonobos did not demonstrate the ability to process adjacent or non-adjacent dependencies in an artificial grammar learning task. This finding challenges the hypothesis that this language precursor is ancient and shared with our primate ancestors.
