Dimeric citrinins diversity revealed by the deep-sea-derived Penicillium citrinum W23

Abstract:
The chemical investigation of a deep-sea-derived fungus, Penicillium citrinum W23, yielded five previously undescribed (1-5) and one known (6) dimeric citrinin derivatives. Their structures were elucidated through extensive spectroscopic analysis, DFT calculations and biogenetic considerations. Compounds 1-6 exhibited diverse connectivity patterns between the two monomeric units with 4-5 being the first exemplars of citrinin dimers featuring a C8'-O-C6-C7-C10' linkage. This study expands the diversity of citrinin derivatives and highlights the power of GIAO-based NMR calculation in distinguishing closely resembling constitutional isomers.
