Purpose of the Study:

  • To optimize the extraction process for Eclipta alba using response surface methodology.
  • To maximize both extract yield and wedelolactone content.

Main Methods:

  • Extraction techniques: Soxhlet, reflux, maceration, ultrasonication.
  • Solvents: Acetone, ethanol, 50% aqueous ethanol, 80% aqueous ethanol.
  • Optimization variables: Particle size, powder-to-solvent ratio, extraction duration.
  • Statistical analysis: Response surface methodology with Box-Behnken design.

Main Results:

  • Soxhlet extraction with 50% aqueous ethanol yielded the highest extract (900.04 mg) and wedelolactone (0.4161%).
  • Optimal conditions: 4.65 h extraction time, 5.29% w/v powder-to-solvent ratio, 1.19 mm particle size.
  • Response surface methodology effectively optimized the extraction parameters.

Conclusions:

  • The optimized extraction methodology enhances Eclipta alba extract quality and reproducibility.
  • This approach reduces production time and cost for this valuable medicinal plant.
