Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause: Evaluation and Management

Genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) describes the common physical manifestations of decreased sex steroids on the genitourinary structures in the perimenopausal and postmenopausal period. While most women will have symptoms attributable to GSM, many are left untreated due to dismissal of them as normal aging. As the general population ages, increased attention to vulvovaginal and lower urinary tract complaints should be paid to address this imbalance. Treatment options exist in several forms and should be tailored to patient preferences and comorbidities.
