This study presents a practical design approach for ultrahigh-resolution spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (UHR SD-OCT) devices. The proposed UHR SD-OCT demonstrates suitable axial resolution and imaging depth for retinal applications.
Area of Science:
- Biomedical Imaging
- Optical Engineering
- Ophthalmology
Background:
- Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive biomedical imaging technique.
- OCT provides high-resolution images of human tissues.
Purpose of the Study:
- To propose a practical design approach for ultrahigh-resolution spectral-domain OCT (UHR SD-OCT) devices.
- To investigate the effects of key component parameters on UHR SD-OCT performance.
- To identify requirements and select optical equipment for UHR SD-OCT.
Main Methods:
- Detailed block diagram and component analysis of SD-OCT.
- Investigation of key parameters influencing UHR SD-OCT performance.
- Selection of optical equipment based on UHR SD-OCT requirements.
Main Results:
- Performance assessment through simulations.
- Detailed investigation of implementation cost and challenges.
- Proposed UHR SD-OCT shows acceptable axial resolution and imaging depth.
Conclusions:
- The proposed UHR SD-OCT is a viable candidate for retinal imaging applications.
- The design approach addresses key requirements for achieving UHR imaging.
