Vertical transmission of human papillomavirus (HPV) occurs in 7.3% of births. While new HPV infections can happen in infants, the risk of persistent or recurrent HPV in children is very low.

- The risk of persistent or recurrent HPV infections in children during the first two years of life is notably low.
