Abstract:
This position paper provides health care professionals updated guidance with corresponding evidence and rationale to support safe injection, infusion, medication vial, and point-of-care testing practices in health care settings. It addresses the infection risks associated with these practices but does not address other safety issues such as right dose, right site, right medication, phlebotomy, or intravenous catheter care. This document updates the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology 2016 position paper.
