Chinese residents haze resilience and its influencing factors

Abstract:
This study aims to assess the haze resilience of residents in China's severe haze regions and improve their quality of life. An evaluation index system for residents' haze resilience is established. The obstacle model is utilized to analyze internal factors influencing haze resilience, while Ordered Logistic regression and Sharpley value decomposition methods are applied to examine external factors and their contributions. Key findings indicate that: (1) Residents' haze resilience is moderate. (2) Internally, factors such as proximity to water bodies, availability of community health services, information access, experience sharing, and labor capacity play significant roles. (3) Externally, media coverage has a highly significant impact, followed by durable haze-reducing goods and access to funding, with PM2.5 levels and outdoor activity exposure having a lesser impact. (4) The contribution rates of external factors rank as socio-economic factors > behavioral and lifestyle factors > environmental factors. This research effectively evaluates the process of building residents'haze resilience, contributing to healthier lives and ecological civilization promotion. It provides a scientific foundation for enhancing residents' haze resilience through policy formulation, community planning, and individual education, offering an optimized path for resilience improvement.
