Summary

Intensive care nurses reported high satisfaction with an escape room designed to teach Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS®). The activity effectively enhanced learning, communication, and teamwork skills for clinical practice.

Background:

Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS®) improves critical care teamwork.
Escape rooms are an effective educational strategy for professional learning.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate intensive care nurses' satisfaction with a TeamSTEPPS®-based escape room.
To explore nurses' perceptions of the escape room learning experience.

Main Methods:

Mixed-methods study combining a satisfaction survey and thematic content analysis of open-ended comments.
Quantitative data analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics™ 29.0.
Qualitative data analyzed using ATLAS.ti 24™.

Main Results:

Fifty-five intensive care nurses participated, reporting high overall satisfaction (median 47/50).
Key themes included enjoyable learning, the utility of TeamSTEPPS® strategies for communication and teamwork, and the practical applicability of learned skills.

Conclusions:

Escape rooms offer a dynamic and engaging platform for TeamSTEPPS® training.
This educational approach effectively promotes teamwork and skill development in intensive care nurses.
