Abstract:
The pressing need for effective, eco-friendly, and reusable adsorbents to tackle water contamination has spurred the development of magnetic natural adsorbents. In this study, we introduce a new magnetic multi-amino-functionalized peach gum polysaccharide (MMPGP) as a reusable adsorbent for effectively eliminating anionic dyes and hexavalent chromium ions (Cr(VI)) from water. MMPGP was created through a one-pot crosslinking reaction, which provided it with numerous amine groups, a porous microstructure, and magnetic properties. The adsorption capabilities of MMPGP were thoroughly assessed, showing high capacities and a fast adsorption rate for anionic dyes and Cr(VI). The maximum adsorption capacities were 467.78 mg g-1 for methyl orange (MO) and 176.29 mg g-1 for Cr(VI), and the adsorption process can be completed within 1 h. The adsorption was mainly driven by electrostatic interactions. Additionally, MMPGP showed selective adsorption for anionic dyes in mixed solutions and could be easily regenerated using an alkaline solution, retaining over 79 % of its initial capacity after five cycles. The combination of excellent adsorption performance, easy magnetic separation, and good reusability makes MMPGP a scalable and cost-effective option for industrial wastewater treatment.
