Bone marrow hypoplasia associated with estrus in ferrets

Prolonged estrus in female ferrets caused bone marrow hypoplasia, leading to severe anemia and a 40% mortality rate. Hematological changes included low platelet counts, resulting in fatal hemorrhagic anemia.
