Superficial Temporal Artery-Based ReMAP: A Case Report Series in Head and Neck Cancer Intra-Arterial Chemotherapy

Background:
Intra-arterial chemotherapy (IAC) can be highly effective for advanced head and neck cancers but often necessitates complex procedures and prolonged hospitalization. Herein, we demonstrate the utility of the repeatable microcatheter access port (ReMAP) system for streamlining IAC.
Methods:
Two patients with advanced head and neck cancers underwent repeated IAC via a subcutaneously implanted ReMAP. Procedural feasibility, safety, and clinical outcomes were assessed and compared to conventional techniques.
Results:
Case 1 involved a 42-year-old male with advanced maxillary sinus carcinoma who received eight IAC sessions of high-dose cisplatin without complications. Follow-up imaging confirmed complete tumor resolution. Case 2 was a 52-year-old female with primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma of the jaw who completed eight IAC sessions via an external carotid arterial sheath, then four sessions with the ReMAP, reducing inpatient requirements, and achieving tumor control.
Conclusions:
The ReMAP system enabled safe and effective IAC administration while reducing patient burden.
