Effectiveness of Prosthetic Cementation With Preheated Composite Resins-A Systematic Review

Objective:
To analyze the literature and answer the question: "Is cementation of dental prostheses with preheated composite better than traditional resin cement?".
Material And Methods:
The PRISMA guidelines were followed and the systematic review was registered in the Open Science Framework. The personalized search strategy was applied to five databases and the gray literature. The article selection process was carried out according to the inclusion criteria: Laboratory articles that have evaluated the cementation of single-unit prostheses with preheated composite resins. The risk of bias was assessed using the Analytical Cross-Sectional Studies questionnaire, made available by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) in an adapted form.
Results:
One thousand five hundred and forty-nine studies were found and, 1123 were analyzed by title and abstract, of which 36 were selected to be read in full. Of these, nine were included in this systematic review and presented a low risk overall. The qualitative analysis of the nine included studies showed that, even though the degree of conversion was maintained and marginal adaptation was impaired, the literature still does not present a consensus on the properties of microhardness, resistance to microtraction and shear, failure load, viscosity, film thickness, and color change.
Conclusion:
Confirming that cementing single-unit prostheses with preheated composite resin is better than traditional cements is still controversial, since the tests that analyze durability, resistance to masticatory forces, and long-term esthetics do not present a consensus in the retrieved literature.
