Area of Science:

  • Plastic Surgery
  • Orthognathic Surgery
  • Rhinoplasty

Background:

  • Preservation rhinoplasty (PR) has been performed since 2018.
  • Few studies have evaluated simultaneous orthognathic surgery (OS) and PR.
  • The study aims to assess the safety, efficacy, advantages, and disadvantages of combined OS and PR.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the safety and efficacy of performing preservation rhinoplasty (PR) concurrently with orthognathic surgery (OS).
  • To analyze the advantages and disadvantages of this combined surgical approach for patients with malocclusion and nasal deformity.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective monocentric study of 118 patients undergoing OS and PR between January 2018 and December 2022.
  • Classification of dorsal preservation subtypes (Type 1-5) was utilized.
  • Data collected included patient demographics, surgical procedure duration, and complication events.

Main Results:

  • The study included 118 patients (mean age 22 years).
  • A total of 15 complications (12.7%) were reported.
  • The mean duration of the combined procedure was 207 minutes.

Conclusions:

  • Simultaneous OS and PR is a viable surgical option for patients with malocclusion and nasal deformity.
  • The combined approach demonstrated acceptable safety and efficacy profiles.
