Adult, black nursing workers with multiple jobs and contact with infected individuals showed higher SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2) test positivity. These findings highlight key risk factors for infection in this essential workforce.
Area of Science:
- Epidemiology
- Occupational Health
- Infectious Diseases
Background:
- Nursing workers are crucial in healthcare delivery.
- Understanding risk factors for SARS-CoV-2 infection among nursing staff is vital for public health.
- Sociodemographic and occupational factors may influence infection rates.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the association between sociodemographic and occupational variables and SARS-CoV-2 test positivity in nursing workers.
- Identify specific risk factors contributing to infection in this population.
Main Methods:
- Exploratory and analytical study involving 15,936 nursing workers.
- Utilized a secondary database for data analysis.
- Employed robust Poisson Regression Model with a 5% statistical significance level.
Main Results:
- Significant associations found between SARS-CoV-2 positivity and age (18-30 and 31-59 years), black race/color, multiple employment relationships, and contact with a confirmed case.
- Nursing technicians/assistants and those in care roles predominated in the study population.
Conclusions:
- Adult, black nursing workers with multiple employment relationships and those with contact with infected individuals are at higher risk for SARS-CoV-2 infection.
- Findings underscore the importance of targeted prevention strategies for high-risk groups within the nursing workforce.

Factors Affecting the Risk of Infection
The integrity and count of the white blood cells help the body resist pathogens and fight infection. When impaired, it reduces the body's resistance to pathogens. The acidic pH levels of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary tracts, and skin...
Sputum Studies II: Culture and Sensitivity
Sputum culture and sensitivity is a medical procedure used to diagnose bacterial infections in the respiratory tract and select the most appropriate antibiotics for treatment. This process involves analyzing sputum samples of thick and opaque secretions produced in the lungs and airways. These samples are collected from patients and then sent to the laboratory for analysis.
The test can identify various pathogens responsible for respiratory infections, including Streptococcus,...
