Abstract:
Colorimetric chemosensors have garnered significant research interest due to their exceptional visual readout capability and field-deployable potential. In this study, an aniline derivative of (E)-2-(2-(8-methoxyquinolin-2-yl)vinyl)aniline (AQOMe) containing 8-methoxyquinoline was synthesized. Notably, spectroscopic characterization revealed that upon complexation with Sn4+ or Fe3+ ions in ethanolic media, AQOMe exhibits a remarkable red-shift (up to100 nm) in its UV-vis absorption profile. According to the analysis of FT-IR spectroscopy, HRMS, 1HNMR spectroscopy, and single-crystal structure of the product, the rearrangement reaction was proposed with the generation of new ionic compound (RAMO). Meanwhile, AQOMe was further applied to the colorimetric detection of Fe3+ and Sn4+ by the UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, and the LODs are 3.7 μM and 1.5 μM, respectively. More interestingly, the colorimetric label paper prepared using RAMO can also quickly produce a visible fading reaction to volatile ammonia (amine) gas as low as 5 ppmv. This is a rarely reported naked-eye colorimetric chemosensor for monitoring volatile ammonia (amine) gas.
