Abstract:
A novel Tb3+-containing antimonotungstate, [(CH3)2NH2]3Na18[Tb4(mal)2(OAc)(W6O13)(SbW9O33)4(H2O)15]·47H2O, regulated by dl-malic acid and acetic acid (Tb4mal2, H3mal = malic acid; HOAc = acetic acid), has been successfully synthesized. The structural analysis reveals that the polyanion of Tb4mal2 consists of four {B-α-SbW9O33} units interconnected by a decanuclear metal cluster {Tb4W6(mal)2(OAc)}. The flexible malic acid ligands involved in the coordinating process create a certain torsion angle, resulting in a twisted rectangular structure of polyanion Tb4mal2. In addition, Tb4mal2 exhibits excellent heterogeneous catalytic activity for the synthesis of 3,4-dihydro-2H-1,2,4-benzothiadiazine-1,1-dioxides through the condensation reaction of 2-aminobenzenesulfonamide and benzaldehydes under environmentally benign reaction conditions.

Reduction of Alkenes: Asymmetric Catalytic Hydrogenation
The metal catalyst used can be either heterogeneous or homogeneous. When hydrogenation of an alkene generates a chiral center, a pair of enantiomeric products is expected to form. However, an enantiomeric excess of one of the products can be facilitated using an enantioselective reaction or an...

Alkynes to Aldehydes and Ketones: Hydroboration-Oxidation
One of the convenient methods for the preparation of aldehydes and ketones is via hydration of alkynes. Hydroboration-oxidation of alkynes is an indirect hydration reaction in which an alkyne is treated with borane followed by oxidation with alkaline peroxide to form an enol that rapidly converts into an aldehyde or a ketone. Terminal alkynes form aldehydes, whereas internal alkynes give ketones as the final product.
Regioselectivity and Stereochemistry of Hydroboration
Hydroboration proceeds in a concerted fashion with the attack of borane on the π bond, giving a cyclic four-centered transition state. The –BH2 group is bonded to the less substituted carbon and –H to the more substituted carbon. The concerted nature requires the simultaneous addition of –H and –BH2 across the same face of the alkene giving syn...
Radical Substitution: Hydrogenolysis of Alkyl Halides with Tributyltin Hydride
The bonds formed in this reaction are stronger than the bonds broken, making it energetically favorable. The reaction follows a radical chain mechanism similar to radical halogenation...
