Summary

Veriset™ patch application during robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) significantly reduces warm ischemia time (WIT) and console time compared to traditional renorrhaphy. This method also promotes an earlier return of renal function without increasing complications.

Background:

  • Renorrhaphy in partial nephrectomy is technically demanding, potentially increasing warm ischemia time (WIT).
  • Exploring novel hemostatic agents is crucial for improving outcomes in robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN).

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate Veriset™ patch as an alternative to renorrhaphy in RAPN.
  • To compare WIT, console time, and postoperative renal function between Veriset™ and conventional renorrhaphy.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 86 patients undergoing RAPN, propensity score matched into Veriset™ (n=43) and renorrhaphy (n=43) groups.
  • Data collected included demographics, tumor characteristics, intraoperative details, blood loss, complications, and 6-month follow-up.
  • Key outcome measures were console time, WIT, and changes in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR).

Main Results:

  • The Veriset™ group showed significantly reduced console time (82.02 vs 95.53 min) and WIT (11.95 vs 17.63 min) (p<0.014 and p<0.001).

  • Hemostasis was achieved with Veriset™ in 93.03% of cases; blood loss, transfusion rates, and 6-month renal function were comparable between groups.

Conclusions:

  • Veriset™ patch is a viable alternative to renorrhaphy in RAPN, leading to shorter WIT and console times.
  • Early postoperative renal function is better preserved with Veriset™ application.
  • Veriset™ offers comparable safety and efficacy to renorrhaphy, with potential benefits for renal function preservation.
