Summary

Extended endoscopic posterior nasal neurectomy (EPNN) offers a novel surgical solution for chronic rhinitis by transecting more nerves. This technique led to complete symptom resolution in a recent case study.

Area of Science:

  • Otolaryngology
  • Neurosurgery

Background:

  • Chronic rhinitis significantly impacts quality of life.
  • Medically refractory cases often require advanced surgical interventions.

Observation:

  • A modified extended endoscopic posterior nasal neurectomy (EPNN) technique was developed.
  • This technique involves transecting both posterior nasal and posterolateral nasal nerves.

Findings:

  • The enhanced EPNN approach targets a wider spectrum of autonomic and sensory fibers.
  • A case study reported complete symptom resolution at six months post-procedure.

Implications:

  • This surgical technique may offer a more effective treatment for chronic rhinitis.
  • Further research is warranted to validate the long-term efficacy and broader applicability of this enhanced EPNN.
